We randomly sample 15000 of 11490337 synced Bluesky accounts and check their posting activity over two 2-month windows.
Of those, 719 went silent — they posted in the last 4 months but not in the last 2. 3741 are still posting.
Each follow is a feed slot. When an account goes silent, every follower loses a source of content. We count the total followers of silent accounts: 519391 feed slots lost. Then we count new follows of active accounts added in the last 2 months: 187047 feed slots gained.
The ratio is feed slots gained ÷ feed slots lost. Above 1 means new follows are compensating for accounts going silent. The value shown is a 24-hour rolling average.
