We randomly sample 30000 of 38730676 synced Bluesky accounts and check their posting activity over two 2-month windows.
Of those, 380 went silent: they posted in the last 4 months but not in the last 2. 673 are still posting. The rest hadn’t posted in 4 months either way and are excluded; we’re measuring transitions, not accounts that were already silent before this window.
We can’t look up any one user’s follows here, so we count by reach instead. For each silent account, we add up its current followers: 40998 people just lost a source. For each active account, we count the new follows added to it in the last 2 months: 14117 people just added one.
The ratio is new follows added ÷ followers of silent accounts. Above 1 means new follows are compensating for accounts going silent. The value shown is a 48-hour rolling average. Full methodology →
